Free Inquiry 1—Mentimeter

For my first free inquiry, I chose to complete the Mentimeter tutorial. Before this course, I was unfamiliar with the website, but I think that it could be a really valuable tool to use in English classes.

Mentimeter is an interactive presentation tool that allows teachers to receive real-time anonymous feedback from their students. It can be used to generate word-clouds, hear students’ voices, and conduct votes quickly. It can also host quiz competitions to gauge student learning in a relatively low-stakes environment. By incorporating Mentimeter into their lessons, teachers can quickly get input from all students, including those who may not usually feel comfortable participating in class discussions.

For this tutorial, I completed Mentimeter’s “Beginner’s Course”. As someone with no prior knowledge of this tool, I found the lesson helpful, especially since it showcased all the different features of the website. Going forward, I could definitely see myself using this tool to assess understanding of and interest in new topics, receive anonymous feedback, or to gauge the class mood. In the example below, I created a poll that asks students how they are feeling on a given day; I think this would be a good question to begin class with to see how everyone is feeling and perhaps adjust the lesson accordingly.
